Imagine that stress is a story—your story. It plays in your mind repeatedly, often without your permission. It’s a voice telling you that you aren’t enough or that the world is too much to handle. But this story isn't permanent. You have the power to change it. Hypnosis gives you the pen to rewrite your narrative, one chapter at a time.
Stress as a Story: The Relentless Narrator
Stress can feel like something that happens to us—an inevitable part of modern life. But what if stress isn’t just about circumstances, responsibilities, and deadlines? What if it’s actually a story we keep telling ourselves until we believe it’s the only truth?
Every time we face a stressful situation, we’re not just reacting to the situation itself. We’re also reacting to the story we tell ourselves—the way we interpret and give meaning to it. That presentation at work? It’s not just a presentation; it becomes a measure of your worth. Failure feels like proof that you're not enough. That’s the story, and it’s persuasive.
Hypnosis helps rewrite that narrative—not by ignoring challenges, but by reshaping the meaning we give them. It allows us to access deeper parts of our mind, where these stories are written, and gently start rewriting them. Imagine if that work presentation was no longer a measure of your worth, but simply an opportunity to share your ideas, to connect, to learn. The situation hasn’t changed, but the story has, and so has your experience of it.
The Paradox of Stress: When Fighting It Makes It Stronger
Here’s a paradox about stress: the more we fight it, the stronger it becomes. It’s like quicksand—the more you struggle, the deeper you sink. Stress feeds on resistance, and when we tell ourselves we shouldn’t feel this way, it grows.
What if, instead of resisting, we approached stress with curiosity? What if we listened, understood, and gently changed the story it’s telling us? That’s where hypnosis comes in. It’s not about silencing stress or pretending it doesn’t exist. It’s about listening to what stress is trying to tell us, and then offering a new perspective—a perspective that serves us better.
In hypnosis, I often work content-free, meaning you don't need to revisit specific negative memories. Instead, I guide you to work with your feelings in a way that doesn't require reliving past events. This allows you to gently shift your perspective, helping you detach from immediate stress and experience a sense of calm and clarity. From there, it’s easier to notice the details you might have missed before—the moments of strength, the resources you had but didn’t recognize, the fact that, even in the middle of stress, you were still capable of getting through it. It’s about rewriting the story from one of overwhelm to one of resilience.
A Conversation with Your Inner Author
Imagine sitting down with the part of your mind that writes your stress stories. What would you say? Maybe you’d ask why they keep telling the same story. Maybe you’d listen to what they’re trying to protect you from. Stress is often a misguided attempt to keep us safe. It’s a story meant to prepare us for the worst, to protect us from failure, rejection, or pain.
But sometimes, the story gets stuck. It keeps repeating itself, even when it’s no longer helpful. Through hypnosis, we can sit down with that inner author and have a conversation. We can thank them for their efforts, for trying to keep us safe, but gently guide them towards a new story—one that acknowledges the challenges we face, but also our strength, our capacity for joy, and our ability to grow.
The Power of Suggestion: Planting New Seeds
Hypnosis is often misunderstood as mind control, but it’s simply a state of deep relaxation and focused attention—a state where we’re more open to new ideas and stories. In that state, we can plant new seeds—suggestions that help us see ourselves and our lives in a different light.
Think of your mind as a garden. For years, stress has planted seeds—seeds of fear, doubt, and worry. Over time, those seeds grew into strong weeds, taking up space and energy. Hypnosis allows us to plant new seeds—seeds of calm, confidence, and clarity. It doesn’t happen overnight, just like any garden, it takes time and care. But slowly, those new seeds take root, and the story starts to change.
One of the most powerful parts of hypnosis is experiencing new stories in a real way. It’s not just about thinking differently—it’s about feeling differently. In hypnosis, you might imagine yourself in a situation that used to feel overwhelming, but now, instead of stress, you feel calm, capable, even curious. Your mind gets a chance to practice this new response, and that practice makes it easier to bring into your everyday life.
A Personal Note: My Own Story with Stress
I’ll be honest—I’m no stranger to stress. There have been moments in my life where the story of stress felt all-consuming, where it felt like I had no control over the narrative. Losing Blue, my beloved companion of 15 years, was one of those moments. The grief was overwhelming, and the stress of that loss told me a story that I’d never feel okay again.
Through my journey with hypnosis, I learned that even deep pain could be part of a different story—one that included love, connection, and gratitude. Hypnosis didn’t take away the pain, but it helped me change the story I told myself. It helped me see the moments of love that were always there, even in the hardest times. And slowly, it helped me find peace again.
That’s why I do this work. Because I know, firsthand, that we have the power to change our stories. We have the power to take the pen back from stress, to write something new, something that serves us better. And I want that for you too.
Rewriting Your Story: An Invitation
If stress has been telling your story for too long, I want you to know that it doesn’t have to stay that way. You have the power to change it. Hypnosis is not a magic wand, and it’s not about pretending that life isn’t challenging. It’s about giving you the tools to face those challenges with a different perspective, a different story—one where you are strong, capable, and enough.
I invite you to consider what it would feel like to rewrite your stress story. To turn the page, to start a new chapter. You don’t have to do it alone—I’m here to guide you, to help you find the words that feel right, the story that brings you peace.
Stress is a part of life, but it doesn’t have to be the whole story. Together, we can write something new—something that feels true to who you are, and who you want to be.
